Edmund Rice College Celebrated as Champion School of Sanctuary
We are thrilled to celebrate Edmund Rice College, Phoenix Park for achieving Champion School of Sanctuary status following the monitoring visit on 24th March 2026. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and welcome from both students and staff set the tone for an inspiring and memorable day. It was immediately clear that inclusion, respect, and a sense of belonging aren’t just values at Edmund Rice College—they are lived and celebrated every day.
Students took centre stage during the visit, leading a confident and proud tour of the school. Vibrant displays throughout the building showcased global cultures, student identity, and the incredible diversity of a school community representing over 70 nationalities. Spaces such as the interfaith room, quiet areas, and wellbeing initiatives highlighted the school’s commitment to supporting every learner.
The student presentation of their School of Sanctuary journey was a true highlight. Through videos, music, and creative projects, students shared the wide range of work happening across the school. Their knowledge of global issues such as migration, equality, and social justice was impressive, and it was evident that they approach these topics with empathy, awareness, and a strong sense of responsibility.
A standout feature of the day was the interactive student-led “stations,” allowing the monitoring team to have meaningful conversations with students about their work. This demonstrated not only the students’ knowledge, but also their leadership, confidence, and pride in their School of Sanctuary journey.
Across the school, a culture of action and participation thrives. Initiatives such as Intercultural Day, Wellbeing Week, charity events, and awareness campaigns allow students to celebrate diversity, support one another, and engage with important global and social issues. Students spoke with pride about the many ways they contribute to making their school a welcoming and inclusive place.
Connections with the wider community are also a key strength. The school actively shares its work with parents, local schools, and national events, inspiring others and showcasing the impact of their Sanctuary journey.
Throughout the visit, the atmosphere at Edmund Rice College was warm, respectful, and inclusive. Students clearly feel happy, supported, and valued, and this was reflected in every interaction.
This achievement is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and care of the entire school community. Edmund Rice College truly embodies the values of a School of Sanctuary and is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when a school comes together to create a culture of belonging for all.
🎉 Congratulations to all students, staff, and the wider school community on this incredible achievement! 🎉
